Most students wince
at the idea of studying Physics, but to 19-year old Chua Khi Pin
from Sunway College Johor Bahru, the subject is “interesting and fun
once you try to understand it”.
Chua was amongst the
top scorers in the recent GCE A Level examinations at Sunway College
Johor Bahru, scoring a whopping 5As.
“Physics has been my
favourite subject since my days in secondary school”, he said,
adding that he scored an equally impressive 11As in his SPM
“The subject is
really about what happens in everyday life, and I love trying to
understand how it all works” said Chua, whose excitement doubled
when he was offered a place to study Physics at the prestigious
Nanyang Technological University (NTU) of Singapore.
Chua added that the
main reason he chose to pursue his pre-university studies at Sunway
College Johor Bahru was because of its excellent record of students
obtaining places in world renowned universities.
“I know many of my
seniors who secured places in institutions like the London School of
Economics, University of Leeds, Monash University and the National
University of Singapore,” he said, adding that he was also awed at
the college’s strong record of producing high scorers in the A
Chua said that a lot
of his success can be attributed to the combined factor of
understanding parents and supportive lecturers.
“I have always had
a good and strong support system that I am always thankful for” he
said, adding that his parents had always emphasized on providing him
with the best education.

he had done so well in the examinations. “It was really a pleasure
to teach him, as he was always interested to know more” said Janice
Tan, Coordinator of the A Level Programme at Sunway College.
Chua, who aims to
be a researcher said, “My parents have taught me the beauties of
education, and it is my dream to give back to the world, as a
