The Johor Inter-School Accounting Quiz 2012 organised by Sunway College
Johor Bahru for the second time, proved to be a popular competition.
Co-organised by Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) this year,
the event attracted some 50 participants from 14 secondary schools
throughout the state. Also present, were teachers from the
respective secondary schools who came to motivate and encourage
their ‘STAR’ pupils, who had been carefully selected and trained for
this event.
“The whole idea behind this competition is to
inculcate interest in the accounting field among students from secondary
schools and also to allow them to network with each other,” said Ms Leong
Mei Kuen, Head of Financial Programmes.
Jointly sponsored by the ACCA and CPA Australia, the competition was keen
right from the start, and became more intense as it progressed through 3
rounds.
Foon Yew
High School JB emerged as the winner for the competition while the
runner-ups were SMK Taman Sri Tebrau, SMK Infant Jesus Convent and SMK Taman
Mutiara Rini.
The winners
walked away with cash for their schools, as well as trophies and book
vouchers for the participants.
“This competition serves as a good platform for the students to not only
be exposed to the college environment, but also prepare them for their
future in a competitive world,” explained Leong.
Leong continued to say that many of the school teachers who were present
said that this is an event that they looked forward to, and will continue to
encourage their students to participate.
In view of the popularity of the competition, Sunway College Johor Bahru
hopes to make this competition an annual event.
