Sunway Education Group is owned and governed by the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation (JCF), the largest education-focused social enterprise in Malaysia.

The Sunway Education Group (SEG) comprises of 23 institutions, including Sunway University, Sunway Colleges, Sunway International Schools, Sunway iLabs and Sunway R&D, Jeffrey Sachs Center on Sustainable Development, and Sunway Centre for Planetary Health.

History

Traced Back to 1987

The origins of Sunway Education can be traced back to 1987 with the establishment of Sunway College in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia by Tan Sri Dr Sir Jeffrey Cheah KBE AO.  Since then, Sunway Education has grown to be a leading provider of quality education and research in Malaysia and the region with aspirations to be a global contributor to high-end sustainable solutions and good planetary health.

Collaborations

International Partnerships and Collaborations

In its aim to deliver quality higher education, Sunway University works closely in partnership, collaborating with world-class partners Lancaster University and Le Cordon Bleu International, to offer premier education with international recognition.

Continuously moving forward in its aim to becoming the country’s international education hub, Sunway Education Group also partners University of Oxford, University of Cambridge, Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), University of California, and other world class institutions.  These partnerships have paved the way and opened doors for academic and cultural project collaborations for not only Sunway University but the other institutions under the Sunway Education Group.  Through these collaborations, students are able to gain international exposure without having to leave the country.

Sustainability

To Further Enhance Our Commitment to the Sustainability

In 2016, the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation entered into a partnership with the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network Association (SDSN) and Professor Jeffrey Sachs, renowned economist and Director of the SDSN.  With the partnership, the Jeffrey Sachs Center on Sustainable Development was established at Sunway University to create and deliver the world’s best academic and executive programs on sustainable development.  In 2019, Sunway University became the centre to the UN SDSN for the Asia region, alongside centres in Paris representing Europe and New York for the Americas.

To further enhance our commitment to the sustainability agenda and preserving our planet for our future generations, Sunway Education Group in 2021 established the Sunway Centre for Planetary Health which focuses on bringing interdisciplinary approaches to bear on mitigating future risks posed by pandemics and other worldwide health challenges.

In 2022, Sunway Education Group’s total student population stands at more than 30,000. As a stalwart supporter of the nation’s education goals, the JCF aims to ensure sustainable quality education for present and future generations of students.

The Sunway Education Group’s institutions offer not only an academic qualification but a well-rounded education, striving to educate students and prepare them for life by providing them experience in various areas of personal development and responsibility.  The development of students’ character, integrity and self-confidence is an essential part of the institutions’ goals especially with a focus on being a “Campus With A Conscience”.

Through the institutions under the Sunway Education Group, the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation has to date disbursed more than RM650 million in scholarships to thousands of deserving students.  Tan Sri Dr Jeffrey Cheah AO believes that education leads to better futures and lives for the recipients and ultimately for our nation.  The Jeffrey Cheah Foundation champions the spirit of giving back to society and the belief that education transforms lives.
