Sunway University has taken a proactive stance in the fight against plastic pollution with the launch of its Zero Plastic Hour campaign. The initiative, unveiled in honor of World Environment Day, signals the university’s commitment to environmental sustainability.

Joined by Sunway Campus F&B tenants and vendors, the campaign aims to raise awareness about the detrimental effects of single-use plastics on the environment, wildlife, and human health. Vendors have pledged to cease the use of single-use plastics, aligning with Sunway University’s ongoing #CampusWithAConscience ambitions.

Accompanying the campaign is a Zero Tolerance policy, enacted on June 5th, which seeks to eliminate single-use plastic from all campus outlets and vending machines. Linda Tan Kim Lian, Director of Sunway Facilities Services, emphasised the crucial role of educational institutions in addressing global challenges and nurturing conscientious global citizens.

Gary from Advance Campus expressed pride in the campus’s transition towards becoming plastic-free. He urged students and staff to actively support the campaign by utilizing reusable containers, tumblers, and cutlery for takeaway orders.

Echoing Gary’s sentiments, Steven from Bite and Taste emphasized the importance of education on sustainability. He encouraged students and staff to advocate for the use of reusable containers and cutlery among their peers, highlighting the collective impact of individual actions.

The Zero Plastic Hour campaign reflects Sunway University’s dedication to creating a healthier and more sustainable environment through collaborative efforts and proactive measures.
